Deep in Paul’s imagination is a world of green hills, sunset skies and trees whose leaves never fall. Celebrating his love of the countryside, his new pieces intertwine everyday family experiences with a technique influenced by airbrushing, animation and 3D modelling software.
His paintings begin with a small 5-10cm sketch and evolve through light and shadow once he has selected the colour of the sky.
Paul says: "About once a year, I like to paint a snow scene. A trick to make things appear brighter is to surround them with a lot of darker colours. I chose an intentionally dark-coloured house to make the orange glow of the lights in the windows appear warmer and brighter. Although the snow is painted almost black, it still looks like snow."
To celebrate 15 years with Castle Fine Art in 2020, Paul used this scene as inspiration for a new artwork titled 'A Winter's Tale'.
