John has returned for 2017 with his new Vincent collection: a poignant homage to the legendary Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, Vincent Van Gogh.
Originally painted in June 1890, the artwork depicts a church at Place de l’Eglise in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. In a letter to his sister later that month, Vincent described the colours as ‘expressive’ and ‘sumptuous’, noting the ‘sky of simple deep blue colour; cobalt’.
For his own interpretation, John has brightened the colours and added texture and depth to the simple blue sky. The addition of a crescent moon adds a further mystical element to the piece.
