The ethereal nature of this portrait by James Francis Gill is unique in comparison to the bold and graphic portraits more commonly associated with the pop art movement in the 1960s. However, its unique colour and intimate proximity to the sitter's face can be seen across some of Gill's most celebrated works which saw him exhibited alongside Andy Warhol and Roy Lichenstein.
Soft strokes of hot pink and deep red create the effect of a hazy photograph which we associate with the glamorous images of old Hollywood like those of Grace Kelly. What's more, Gill has chosen to accentuate her dark eyes in particular; perhaps a homage to the individuality of celebrities often lost behind the mist of their own image.
Strikingly beautiful in more ways than one, this original piece comes framed and is ideal for a 20th century modern art collector and a fan of retro pop culture.
